The 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of Jersey

1945 - 1995 Commemorative £2 Coin and £1 Banknote

This commemorative coin and banknote wallet has been issued to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of Jersey.

On 8th May 1945, Sir Winston Churchill addressed the nation with his end of war speech.  The citizens of Jersey assembled in the Royal Square where they listened to the broadcast and learned of the much-awaited news that the Channel Islands were to be freed from the German occupying forces.

Fifty years later the citizens of Jersey celebrate again and recall the events surrounding a most memorable day in the Island's history.

The reverse of the commemorative £2 coin features the universal symbol of peace, the dove, with a V emblem.  The design of the £1 banknote incorporates a number of new features.  The date of the liberation is printed on the front together with a small map of the Island produced in Optical Variable Ink, an additional security feature.

The coin and note are sealed in an informative presentation wallet with outer sleeve.
