United in Change

Exciting new designs for coins of the United Kingdom made their debut in 2008.  The designs for the first decimal coins were then 40 years old and so it was time for rejuvenation.  The Royal Mint chose designs by Matthew Dent, who, in a imaginative and clever series, spread the Royal Amrs over coins and put the complete design on the £1 coin.

Each coin in the new series of designs from the 50p to the 1p feature a portion of the Royal Arms.  United therefore, and carefully arranged in the correct order, the 50p, 20p, 10p, 5p, 2p and 1p make up a shield of arms.  Each coin in this collection features the portrait of the Queen by Ian Ran-Broadley FRBS.  It was approved for the circulating coinage of the United Kingdom from 1998.

All you need to do is find the remaining 6 coins to include in the folder and like a jigsaw they will reveal the Royal Shield of Arms.

The £1 One Pound Coin designed by Matthew Dent, features on its reverse The Royal Shield of Arms.
