THE LONDON UNDERGROUND 150TH ANNIVERSARY FIRST DAY SILVER PROOF COIN COVER

One hundred and fifty years ago London was one of the largest cities in the world, a hive of industry - and the hub of Britain's rapidly expanding rail network.  On 9th January 1863, the world's first passenger carrying underground railway opened.

Today, the London Underground serves 270 stations on 402 kilometres (250 miles) of track (only 45% of which is underground).  In 2011/12 the system carried almost 1.2 billion passengers.

This beautiful commemorative coin cover features the Royal Mail "London Underground" set of six stamps alongside the 2013 Silver Proof UK £2 coin struck by The Royal Mint.  The postmark date is January 9th 2013.

The coin is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and presented in a black folder.
