Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle (22nd May 1859 - 7th July 1930) was a British writer best know for his detective fiction featuring the character Sherlock Holmes.

Widely considered a British cultral icon, the character and stories have had a profound and lasting effect on mystery writing and popular culture as a whole, with the original tales as well as thousands written by authros other an Conan Doyle being adapted into stage and radio plays, television, films, videao games, and other media for over one hundred years.
