2011 Pitcairn Island $2 1oz Silver Proof - Wonderland Rabbit

This Lunar Wonderland White Rabbit coin is struck from 1 oz of pure silver and produced by the New Zealand Mint to be legal tender of the Government of Pitcairn Island.

The White Rabbit appeared in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland written by English aurthor Charles Lutwige Dodson under the psuedonym Lewis Carroll in 1865. It was a very popular book which tells the story of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world, populated by peculiar creatures.

The White Rabbit is very famous and a favorite in popular culture. He is featured on the reverse of this coin (which resembles a backwards clock face) holding a pocketwatch. You can almost hear him muttering, "Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!" The obverse features the Raphael Maklouf Effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This adorable collectors coin is packaged in a large backwards facing pocketwatch case, which in turn is held in a full color display box. It features a scene from the Wonderland book in a lovely corner of the forest with colorful mushrooms, flowers, and of course, everyones favorite White Rabbit! A numbered certificate of authenticity is included.
