THE MAJOR MITCHELL'S COCKATOO

The Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo is one of Australia’s most beautiful birds.  Pink feathers adorn the face, chest and belly of this adorable creature, with its tail feathers and wings being white.  The crowning glory of this cockatoo is its brilliant red and yellow striped crest.

Representative of true love and companionship, these lovely birds mate for life and can live for many decades.  When raising young, both the male and the female share the parental duties and return to the same breeding grounds year after year.

These endearing cockatoos generally gather at dawn and dusk, when they can be seen in loving loyal pairs or as part of a social group.

The coin’s reverse depicts a coloured representation of two Major Mitchell’s Cockatoos perched on a heart-shaped branch with bush flowers and leaves with one cockatoo presenting its mate with a sprig of gum blossoms.  The design also includes the inscription “Forever Love” and The Perth Mints “P” mintmark.

The coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination and the 2014 year-date.  The coin is issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of the Tuvalu.

The Perth Mint will release no more that 7,500 of these 2014 Forever Love coins.

The coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity and presented in a display case, the coin is delivered in a delightful, coloured shipper.
