Australia’s oldest professional golf tournament began in 1905.  The inaugural event at Royal Melbourne was won by Dan Soutar, the founding father of the Professional Golfers’ Association for Australia.  Down the years, some of the greatest names in Australian golf have won the PGA – including Norman Von Nida, Kel Nagle, Peter Thomson, Bruce Devlin, Greg Norman, Wayne Grady and Ian Baker-Finch.

The tournament’s stature in world terms had attracted many overseas stars.  International winners of the Australian PGA Championship include Gary Player, Hale Irwin, Sam Torrance and Steve Ballesteros.

The coin’s reverse depicts a golfer and a golf ball.  The design includes the Australian PGA Centenary logo in colour, the year-dates 1905-2005 and inscription ‘The start of a new era’.  The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark also appears in the design.

The coin is encapsulated and housed in a stylish presentation case with a ball-marker depicting The Perth Mint logo. Accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, the case comes in an outer shipper portraying the Australian PGA Centenary logo in colour on the front.
