Designed to replace the $2 bank note, the new bi-metallic $2 coin was officially launched on 19th February 1996. 

The reverse of the coin, by Canadian wildlife artist Brent Townsend, features the majestic polar bear roaming in his high arctic habitat in perfect harmony with a land of harsh beauty and eternal snow. 

The coin comes encapsulated, housed in its blue velvet original box, and accompanied by a certificate and decorated beauty box.
