Iconic buildings depicted include Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the Gherkin, St Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye and the Tower of London, with London 2012 arching above. The outer ring of the design features pictograms representing various Olympic sports which are synonymous with the London 2012 Games.

‘As an architecture student I wanted to include a detailed impression of London’s iconic skyline on my design,’ says Saiman. ‘The pictograms of Olympic athletes placed around the edge is like a clock face,’ he explains, ‘and a reference to another London icon, Big Ben. Winning the Olympic Coin competition is a dream come true.’

The Olympic £5 coin is presented in a specially designed and informative card detailing the coin’s design and specifications.
