The Australian two-dollar note was introduced in 1966 due to decimalisation, to replace the £1 note which had similar green colouration.

The Reserve Bank of Australia issued Australian Dollar banknotes in 8 different denominations, including this 2 Australian Dollars banknote (Commonwealth of Australia). They are part of the withdrawn Australian Dollar banknotes series. The Reserve Bank of Australia started issuing these 2 Australian Dollar banknotes in 1966. They were withdrawn from circulation in 1972.

The note of two dollars portrays William Farrer and John MacArthur. On the paper bill a caption reads ‘Commonwealth of Australia’. The slang term for these notes was ‘sick sheep’, referring to the green colour and the merino ram pictured.
