1998 BU £1 Coin - Royal Beasts

ROYAL BEASTS - PHILATELIC NUMISMATIC COVER - Number 24576

On the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the Order of the Garter, Royal Mail issued a set of five stamps of The Queen's Beasts, which accompanies the Royal Mint £1 coin.  The coin bears the Royal Arms, modelled by Eric Sewell for the original £1 coin when introduced in 1981.  Appropriately, the garter which encircles the shield bears the motto of the Order of the Garter, 'Honi soit qui mal y pense' ('Shame to him who eveil thinks of it').
