2018 Silver Proof Ten Pence - The Great British Coin Hunt - I

In 2018 The Royal Mint released 26 commemorative 10p coin designs. Their theme is the A to Z of Britain and each coin combines a letter of the alphabet with an aspect of quintessential Britishness.

This is the first time The Royal Mint has produced a series of commemorative 10p coins and each 10p coin has been struck in .925 Sterling Silver to a Proof finish.

I is for Ice Cream Cone - This 10p features the letter I, which sits alongside a picture of an ice Cream Cone with a flake, capturing memories of an iconic British Summer Holiday by the seaside.

Ice cream recipes first appeared in England in the 18th century. The recipe for ice cream was published in Mrs. Mary Eales's Receipts in London in 1718.

According to research by Neuroscientists at the Institute of Psychiatry in London, eating ice cream really does make you happy. Scientists found that a spoonful of the cold stuff lights up the same pleasure centre in the brain as winning money or listening to your favourite music.

The coin is protectively encapsulated in a Perspex presentation block and housed in the original Royal Mint outer case.
