In 2018 The Royal Mint released 26 commemorative 10p coin designs. Their theme is the A to Z of Britain and each coin combines a letter of the alphabet with an aspect of quintessential Britishness.

This is the first time The Royal Mint has produced a series of commemorative 10p coins and each 10p coin has been struck in .925 Sterling Silver to a Proof finish.

Z is for Zebra Crossing  - This 10p features the letter Z, which sits on a picture of James Callaghan's iconic black and white pedestrian crossing which has adorned our nation's roads since 1949.

Not to be confused with a pelican crossing, the zebra crossing’s most distinguishing feature is its alternating black and white stripes on the road that resemble the coat of a zebra, hence the name zebra crossing.

Zebra crossings don’t always get the credit they deserve but one has stood out in history as possibly the most famous zebra crossing in the world. We are of course talking about the one that adorned The Beatles Abbey Road album cover, possibly one of the most iconic album covers in history.

The coin is protectively encapsulated in a Perspex presentation block and housed in the original Royal Mint outer case.
