This coin celebrates the longest royal marriage in British history, with the obverse showing Her Majesty The Queen wearing a royal coronet and His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in the position of a royal consort.  It portrays The Queen not only as a committed and long-serving monarch but as a wife, mother and grandmother.

The use of mounted figures has long been a traditional way to mark important royal occasions.  This equestrian reverse design depicts The Queen and Prince Philip at the Trooping the Colour, with The Queen riding her favourite horse, Burmese.
