2011 BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED £1 COIN - THE CITY OF EDINBURGH

People have lived in Edinburgh since the Bronze Age, and its early recorded history includes a siege in AD 638 at Din Eidyn, the Gododdin Castle Rock hill fort.  By the end of the sixteenth century the city became the capital of Scotland.

The 2011 Edinburgh £1 coin pays tribute to Edinburgh's rich history.  Featuring a white shield, holding an imposing black castle sitting on a rock, the coat of arms is blazoned:

'Argent a castle triple-towered and embattled sable masoned of the first topped with three fans gules windows and portcuillis shut of the last situate on a rock proper'.

The cover is postmarked The City of Edingburgh dated 30th November 2011 and has been jointly released by the Royal Mail and the Royal Mint
