THE MEMORIES OF LONDON SILVER PROOF COIN FIRST DAY COVER

The memories of London's sensational 2012 Olympics started gathering on 6th July 2005 when the capital city was selected to host the 2012 Games.  On 27th July 2012 the XXX Olympiad burst into life with the spectacular opening ceremony, masterminded by film director Danny Boyle and opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The closing ceremony, featured a celebration of British music and the handover of the Olympic flag to Rio, host city for 2016.

The reverse features two hands meeting, handing over the Olympic relay baton over, with a sweeping flag of the United Kingdom twisting into the Brazilian flag. The inscription reads: LONDON 2012 RIO 2016.

The obverse features the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank Broadley, FRBS, FSNAD, whose initials IRB appear under the head, as used on all British coins from 1998.

The coin is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and presented in a black folder.
