Celebrate centuries of Scottish heritage

The art of heraldry has charted identity and shifts in power through history. In 1603 when James VI of Scotland succeeded Elizabeth I of England, becoming James I of England, the union of the two countries required a new coat of arms. The new king chose the Scottish Unicorn to join the Lion of England in supporting the Royal Arms. More than four centuries later, this mystical beast has been captured in an original design by Royal Mint coin designer Jody Clark.

This is the second release in the series and this edition has been struck in one quarter ounce of 999.9 fine gold and finished to Proof standard. The coin comes in a Royal Mint case and is accompanied by a booklet produced in association with Clive Cheesman, Richmond Herald at the College of Arms.
